Nearly Finished

…As if a web design every really feels finished.

Seriously though, I’m almost done with the new look and updates so far. There are still some funny problems in Internet Explorer, as well as several links that I have yet to connect to anything.

Thanks for standing by while the site was being overhauled. Originally I was going to build a site that was completely controlled by wordpress. After fooling with that idea and getting a few people’s opinions, I realized I was neglecting the most important aspect of a portfolio: Easy viewing of my work. The blog-only format didn’t really work right for what I had in mind. (At least, as far as the main landing page was concerned.)

As with many other projects – simple is better. Dividing the site into blog and non-blog areas made more sense. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Another Wave Of Changes

Once again, I am ratifying my last design completely. The full-blog powered site wasn’t quite working how I would have liked it to. I am sorry to anyone caught in the middle of all this. I should have everything worked out soon.

Uploading and Editing

Currently, I am still cropping and editing content for all of my portfolio projects. I will be attempting to get the bulk of the information up by the end of this week. If you notice anything funny, feel free to leave a comment. And check back soon!

Thanks!

Working Out Bugs

One of the huge steps in any web design project is working out bugs. Because websites are designed to be viewed across many types of computers, web browsers (including different versions), and screen resolutions, this inevitably leads to bugs and inconsistencies in your design.

Mostly, the problem lies in the many different ways that browsers interpret CSS rules. Luckily, there is an organization that has clearly defined what the rules are supposed to do. (It’s called the W3C- http://www.w3.org.) However, there is no guarantee that every browser is going to follow these rules so you must plan ahead for the time you will need to work out these issues.

This is one of the things I am currently working through with this site. While Firefox is currently rendering the site favorably, Internet Explorer (I’m optimizing back to version 6.0 at least) is doing a few things I am not quite happy with.

This aspect of web design can be fairly frustrating, but I will admit that I get a bit of a kick out of the challenge. And yes, you do feel like a nerd when you get excited that your div’s are finally lining up. Strangely, in the end I find it all very rewarding!

Projects and Write Ups

I am currently in the process of creating the posts for each of my portfolio pieces. I will be snapping screen-shots and writing copy for each one so that you can learn a little about their design processes. Please bear with me, as several items may be posted incompletely and/or filled with gibberish for the purpose of refining my CSS Style-sheet.

Also, feel free to leave your thoughts and suggestions. It is my goal to create a more interactive portfolio that not only showcases my work, but also provides tips and an inside look into the world of multimedia design.
